In 2019, hauliers were charged tolls in the amount of CZK 10.946 billion

Prague, 6 January 2020 - In December 2019, hauliers were charged tolls by CzechToll in the total amount of nearly CZK 725 million. For the whole of 2019 hauliers were billed the total amount of CZK 10.946 billion, i.e. by 1.19% more than in 2018.

Following the expansion of the toll road network as of 1 January 2020, CzechToll operates the satellite toll system on a total of 1,102 kilometres of 1st category roads and 1,307 kilometres of motorways. A total of 2,409 kilometres of roads and motorways are currently subject to toll payment in the Czech Republic. Although the scope of charged roads and motorways has been expanded by 903 kilometres compared to the original toll system, the operation of the cutting-edge satellite toll system is three times cheaper than of the original microwave system. 

The new toll system was launched in December 2019. The Czech Republic became the first country in the world to replace the costly microwave technology with the satellite method of toll collection. The investment in the new system will start to pay off for the government already in 2020 in massive savings on operation and increased toll collection revenues thanks to charging of additional 860 kilometres of 1st category roads as of 1 January 2020.
