Prague, 5 November 2019 - Last week hauliers registered 32 thousand vehicles in the new toll system. In total, CzechToll has already registered 154,000 vehicles, approximately 34% of the total of 458,000 vehicles affected by the obligation to install the new on-board unit.

As of 1 December 2019, drivers of unregistered vehicles face a fine of CZK 5,000 in ticket proceedings and up to CZK 100,000 in administrative proceedings in case driving on a toll section without the new on-board unit. The same fine may then be imposed on hauliers themselves.

Large hauliers operating under the postpay toll mode have already registered 137 thousand vehicles (89% of the planned 154 thousand vehicles). Smaller hauliers that operate on Czech roads and motorways under the prepay toll mode have so far registered only 6% of vehicles (17 thousand). In particular, small hauliers could spend the beginning of December in unnecessary queues at points of sale if they fail to meet their obligation as soon as possible.

According to our in-house surveys, small hauliers in most cases know about the obligation to get the new on-board unit. Very often, however, they deliberately leave the obligation to register for their first trip to the Czech Republic. We are preparing to expand capacities at border crossings to cope with the load of hauliers at the turn of November and December, but at the same time we strongly advise hauliers to use the remaining four weeks before the launch of  the system for their registration. Otherwise, they may wait unnecessarily in line at the beginning of December, ” said Matej Okáli, CzechToll CEO.
