Prague, 6 February 2020 - The satellite toll system has confirmed the assumptions and generates more funds for the Czech Republic on tolls than the original microwave system. The total of 2,409 km of toll roads and motorways achieved the toll collection of CZK 948 mil. (compared to CZK 894 mil. in 2019), which represents an increase of 6.01%.

The growth of the prescribed toll was mainly due to an extension of the toll network by 902.9 km of newly charged motorways and 1st category roads. Comparing January 2020 to January 2019, the same toll network as in 2019 would achieve approximately the same amount of toll collection. However, despite the significant expansion of the toll road network, the operating cost of the toll system is three times lower than before the end of November 2019.

At the end of January, more than 415,000 vehicles were registered in the toll system, i.e. 91% of the estimated 458,000 vehicles that CzechToll assumed when launching the system as a part of its traffic models. As at the end of January, hauliers collected almost 338,000 on-boards units for these vehicles.

“During January, we completed extraordinary measures that doubled the capacity of the border points of sale. However, as necessary we continue to use specifically adapted mobile registration points at problematic locations such as the entry to the Czech Republic on the D8 motorway. The total cost of the extraordinary measures exceeded CZK 60 million,” said Matej Okáli, the CzechToll CEO.

In January, the busiest toll motorway section was between Brno-South and Brno-Centre exits on the D1 motorway. During the given period a total of 217,883 cars weighing over 3.5 tons drove through here in the direction of Prague. Also among the 1st category roads the busiest section was just a few kilometres away: 89,050 vehicles weighing over 3.5 tons drove through the I/52 road section near Modřice in January in the direction of Vienna.
